Last weekend I spent about 10-12 hours helping my parents work on their computer. Actually my brother and I have both been helping them to transfer information and clean out their old computer and reconfigure it. My dad was nice enough to surprise me yesterday by giving me $50.00 totally unexpected. I will admit there was temptation about what to do with the money. There are currently 3 short -term things that I am saving for:
1. A gift for some friends of mine who are expecting a baby in the next 4-5 weeks ($40.00)
2. Money for our work golf tournament due June 2nd ($50.00)
3. Money for tickets to a co-workers surprise retirement party due end of May ($70.00)
To pay for these I have started slowly taking out of my weekly $50.00 spending cash so when my parents gave me $50.00 it was tempting to put away but that just wouldn't be right. I will be depositing it today. Unfortunately it will not go directly towards any debt as we are going to be in the red the next time our car payments come out, so it will go towards getting our bank account back in the black.
It's so easy when extra money comes in to spend it- but that's the worst thing you can do. :o)
